A leading pigment manufacturing facility in Russia faced persistent challenges with high-colority wastewater discharge from its organic pigment production lines. The plant processes pigments for the coatings, plastics, and printing ink industries, generating approximately 500 cubic meters of colored wastewater daily. Local regulations required effluent color below 50 Pt-Co units before municipal discharge.
The client is one of Russia's largest pigment producers, operating multiple lines for organic and inorganic pigments including phthalocyanine blue, azo red, and carbon black dispersions. Located near Moscow with strict water discharge permits, the facility's existing ferric chloride coagulation system was no longer sufficient to meet compliance targets as production capacity grew and environmental standards tightened.
Before implementing our solution, the client faced several interconnected problems:
After on-site wastewater analysis and jar testing, our technical team recommended Cleanwater CW-05, a specialized dicyandiamide formaldehyde resin-based cationic polymer designed for pigment and dye wastewater treatment.
| Parameter | CW-05 Specification |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Translucid liquid |
| Solid Content | >50% |
| Specific Gravity (20°C) | 1.1-1.3 |
| pH Value (30% water solution) | 1.5-3.0 |
| Viscosity (25°C, mPa.s) | 5-50 |
| Solubility | Dissolve in water absolutely |
The low-viscosity formulation of CW-05 enables easy pumping and automated dosing, while its high cationic charge density provides superior neutralization of negatively charged pigment particles. CW-05 was deployed at only 150-250 ppm, a significant reduction from the previous 500-800 ppm chemical consumption.
| Parameter | Before (FeCl3) | After (CW-05) | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Color Removal Rate | 60-70% | 95% | +35% |
| COD After Treatment | 350-450 mg/L | 80-120 mg/L | -70% |
| Daily Sludge Volume | 2.5 tons | 0.8 tons | -68% |
| Chemical Dosage | 500-800 ppm | 150-250 ppm | -65% |
| pH Adjustment Cost | Baseline | -40% | Significant savings |
| Effluent Color (Pt-Co) | 120-180 units | 15-30 units | Below 50-unit limit |
"Switching to Cleanwater CW-05 has transformed our wastewater treatment operation. We achieved full regulatory compliance while reducing chemical costs and sludge handling burden significantly. The technical support from the Cleanwater team throughout implementation was outstanding."
