A mid-sized recycled paper mill in Turkey producing corrugated medium and testliner from recovered paper faced significant wastewater challenges. Processing approximately 300 tons of waste paper daily, the facility generated around 800 cubic meters of colored effluent daily. Turkish regulations required effluent to meet strict color and COD limits before discharge.
The client operates in the Marmara region with over 15 years of operation in recycled cardboard and kraft paper production. Their existing treatment system combined PAC and ferric sulfate with anionic polyacrylamide, which struggled to handle increasing color loads from modern printed packaging waste containing water-based inks and synthetic dyes.
After on-site assessment and bench-scale testing, our engineers proposed Cleanwater CW-05, a dicyandiamide formaldehyde resin-based cationic polymer formulated for color removal in paper effluents. Its high cationic charge density neutralizes negatively charged colloidal particles responsible for color and COD.
| Parameter | CW-05 Specification |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Colorless or light-color sticky liquid |
| Solid Content | >50% |
| Specific Gravity (20°C) | 1.1-1.3 |
| pH Value (30% water solution) | 2.5-3.0 |
| Viscosity (25°C, mPa.s) | 5-50 |
| Solubility | Dissolve in water absolutely |
CW-05 was integrated before the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit at 100-200 ppm with reduced PAC at 200-300 ppm, achieving superior results while cutting total chemical consumption.
CW-05 is extensively used for wastewater treatment in textile, printing, dyeing, paper-making, mining, and ink industries. It is particularly effective for color removal treatment of high-colority wastewater from dyestuffs plants, and is suitable for treating wastewater containing activated, acidic, and disperse dyestuffs.
| Parameter | Before (PAC + PAM) | After (CW-05 + PAC) | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Color Removal Rate | 65-75% | 93% | +22% |
| Effluent Color (Pt-Co) | 150-200 units | 30-55 units | Below 80-unit limit |
| COD After Treatment | 180-280 mg/L | 60-110 mg/L | -60% |
| Total Chemical Dosage | 600-900 ppm PAC + PAM | 100-200 ppm CW-05 + 200-300 ppm PAC | -50% |
| Sludge Moisture | 75-80% | 60-65% | Easier dewatering |
| Monthly Chemical Cost | Baseline | -35% | Significant savings |
"Cleanwater CW-05 solved our long-standing color compliance problem. We meet discharge limits consistently while saving significantly on chemicals. The technical team's support was very professional, and we have recommended Cleanwater to other mills in our industry association."
Yixing Cleanwater Chemicals Co., Ltd. is located in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China, adjacent to Shanghai — the economic, financial, and trade center of China. Our strategic location provides convenient transport connections with customers at home and abroad.
Our products, with strong capacities of decolorization and removal of COD and BOD, are mainly used for wastewater treatment across diverse industries including textile, printing, dyeing, paper-making, mining, and ink. In addition, our flocculant agents also serve as effective retention agents in the production process of paper and pulp.
Guided by our principle of "promptness, action, quality, and credit", we are committed to satisfying the demands of both domestic and international customers through high-quality products, reasonable pricing, prompt delivery, and consummate service.
The implementation of Cleanwater CW-05 at this Turkish recycled paper mill demonstrates outstanding performance in paper industry effluent treatment. Achieving 93% color removal, 60% COD reduction, and 35% chemical cost savings, CW-05 proved to be a cost-effective alternative to conventional PAC/PAM combinations. This case validates Cleanwater Chemicals' expertise in delivering targeted water treatment solutions to the global paper and pulp industry.
